May 2021 COVID-19 Updates
May 2021
Learning Center
The Earth Day Kid event on May 1, 2021 at Cypress Gardens in Moncks Corner SC with 19 children and 19 adults participating was a pleasant and educational experience. Each family drove in their own car in caravan fashion following the Sisters’ van. After viewing exhibits in the Butterfly House and the Swamparium, everyone enjoyed lunch prepared by the Sisters. After lunch, Sister Susanne spoke to the parents/guardians about upcoming programs and treated each family to ice cream.
Food Pantry
Food distribution continued with pre-filled grocery bags given at the door on May 11 and toiletry bags were distributed on May 18. In lieu of the Blessed Angela meal on May 25, bagged lunches were prepared by Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. A $10 IGA gift card accompanied the meal.
Clothing Closet
The Clothing Closet was open on Fridays in the Felician Center. Regular operating procedures were resumed in closet with social distancing.
Health Programs
Interviews for assistance with dental, eye and prescriptions and food pantry continued on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with barriers and other precautions in place.
Decisions to cancel events or adapt events continue for the protection of staff, clients and students.
In addition . . .
Sister Susanne applied for three $1,000 grants, one for each Sister to assist families affected by COVID. Each Sister met with a family to determine if they met the grant criteria. Once that was determined, Sister Susanne wrote the checks to the awarded families.
Tabletop shields were assembled for the Outreach building safety and protection; additional shields have been ordered and assembled for the Learning Center’s upcoming summer programs.
