November COVID-19 Updates

November 2020

Learning Center

This month’s Kid Event was about giving thanks.  As has been our protocol the children were accompanied by their parent/guardian wearing masks, using social distance from others, and having their temperatures checked at the door.  Children and their parents/guardians viewed a video about Operation Christmas Child (from Samaritan’s Purse) and listened to a presentation by Sister Susanne about the importance of giving.  Afterwards, each child filled a shoe box with a variety of necessities and fun items to donate to Operation Christmas Child.  They also completed an activity with their parent/guardian about what they were grateful for.   Before leaving they received a bag of fruit and tickets (provided by Duke Energy) for ice skating at the town Christmas event.

Food Pantry

The Kingstree Community Youth collected and delivered 1000 pounds of food for Felician Center to use for Thanksgiving grocery bags. Volunteers prepared 200 grocery bags using the donation.

During the month 85 grocery bags were distributed one week, 85 fruit bags and $10 gift cards another week, and then the 200 Thanksgiving grocery bags were distributed the third week.

Clothing Closet

The Clothing Closet was open on Fridays in the dining room at Felician Center.  As has been our protocol, temperatures were checked at the door and gloves were distributed by a student and faculty member of Francis Marion University’s Nursing Department.  Only five shoppers were permitted inside at a time.  Customers purchased socks, towel sets, baby clothes, and other new and gently used clothing items. A representative from Careteam in Conway, SC provided HIV testing in the kitchen to allow for social distancing and privacy.
