October COVID-19 Updates

October 2020

Food Pantry

Each week 85 bags of groceries, sandwiches and $10 gift cards, or $20 gift cards were given to adults each representing a household.  On October 17, 85 bagged sandwiches were provided by the staff of Williamsburg Regional Hospital in lieu of a birthday present for the CEO.   Also, Catholic Charities personnel distributed 70 $50 gift cards for either Walmart or Food Lion.  On October 27, Subway sandwiches and a bag of COVID/Flu supplies were distributed.

A $5,000 check was received from Duke Energy for food.

Learning Center

On Wednesday, October 28, a Halloween event was held for the children.  Activities were set up in five stations for semi prepared art projects of spiders, puppets and puzzles.  Once children and their parent/guardian passed the temperature check, they received a pumpkin hat and bag to carry the goodies they received at each station.  Upon completing the activities, the children went to the Art Room where they “won”, by spinning a wheel, their choice of cupcakes, cookies or donuts, and received a bag of snacks, a book and a pumpkin.

Clothing Closet

Each week, a different clothing or linen closet item was featured for sale in the dining room at the Felician Center.  The temperatures of the shoppers were checked and gloves distributed by a student and faculty member of Francis Marion University’s Nursing Department.  The number of shoppers in the dining area were monitored as a COVID precaution.  On October 9, a representative from Careteam in Conway, SC provided HIV testing in the kitchen to allow for social distancing and privacy.
