Thorne Avenue Neighborhood Picnic

To celebrate the conclusion of the Neighborhood Forum project on Thorne Avenue, the 31 residents who had some repairs, revisions or beautification around their homes were invited to an outdoor picnic.
Board members Jean Nexsen, her granddaughter Grace McClary and Salley Jenkinson greeted the guests and distributed food tickets. Continuing to support local business, Connie’s food truck provided chicken wings, hamburgers and hot dogs to the residents that attended. Sister Carol and Sister Johnna hosted the guests with drinks and ice cream throughout the festive gathering.
After singing together, “This is the Day” Sister Susanne addressed the group with gratitude for their participation and cooperation to clean up, make safe and beautify their properties as part of the 30 th anniversary celebration of the Felician Sisters’ presence and ministry in Williamsburg County.
At the start of the project a year ago, the goal was to become the “talk of the town” and that had been achieved. Amidst various words of thanks from the residents, Stephanie Bradley, Thorne Avenue resident, said the following: “Sisters, we thank you for what you did for all of us. No one usually thinks about us or this neighborhood and you did”.
At the conclusion, each resident received a yard stake and patriotic mini-flag to put outside of their home. We are grateful to the St. Francis Fund from Denver, Colorado that prompted this blessed project.
