Another monthly kid event sponsored by the St. Francis Fund BEYOND THE CLASSROOM Grant was held at Felician Center on February 10th. Still masked and socially distanced, 18 children (with an adult) attended the event coordinated by Kat Tisdale and Sister Carol Piskor. When the children arrived, they were directed to the demo station where Kat Tisdale, Learning Center director, shared the contents and explained the directions in their take-away folders. There were valentines to be made, word search and crossword puzzles to be solved using “loving” words, a diagram of the body’s heart with its parts labelled and a narrative of the function of the heart.
Sister Johnna distributed a take home bag for each child that included an outdoor Valentine to hang on the door, a $10 gift card to Dominos and specially decorated cupcakes. The cupcakes were a treat from the daughter of a Lodi worker, friend to Sister Adrian Jumbelic, a Kingstree “cheerleader”.
Last but not least, Sister Carol delighted the parents/guardians with a surprise Valentine. Each adult, chose a fashionable handbag filled with toiletries, socks, scarves and such donated by the Women’s Group from Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Little River, SC. One mother said, “how special I am made to feel”. One father chose a bag he knew his wife would appreciate.Blessed Mary Angela said, “To LOVE is to give” and this simple event modelled many loving hands and hearts from various folks near and far.
