It was August 11th, the kickoff date for the 30th anniversary of the Felician Center serving Williamsburg County, and the Sisters were told that there would be an 11:30 AM surprise.
So at 11:30 AM sirens were heard, flashing lights from cars marked with "Williamsburg County Sheriff" followed by Thorne Avenue neighbor’s cars donned with balloons approached the Outreach Center and circled the building. Then all the neighbors, sheriff and sheriff department reps gathered for the program. Organized by Sellecia Pressley, a neighbor who had children, grandchildren, and has great grandchildren attend the Learning Center, a prayer was offered by Pastor: Elder Bernard Giles, True Holiness Church of Deliverance. Remarks of appreciation and congratulations by various neighbors followed. A presentation of gift baskets for each of the Sisters (Sister Carol was unavailable to attend) followed.
To date 17 houses have been worked on as part of the summer Neighborhood Forum with more to come. It was a great day in the neighborhood and Thorne Avenue continues to be the talk of the town.
