Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been designated as a national day of service.  On January 16 some members of the Felician Center Mission Integration Committee and the Felician Sisters made a visit to the Williamsburg Residential facility off of Thorne Avenue.
Sister Susanne spoke to the group about the icon, Martin Luther King Jr. and his “dream” for living peacefully.  The residents were not able to be photographed but were filled with responses about the famous speech. “He wanted people to get along with one another” and “Martin said no fighting just peace”. One of the residents said “we take care of one another here”.  The group sang the familiar hymn “We Shall Overcome”.

Mary Lisa McGill, board chair, Jean Nexsen, committee chair and Kelly Atkinson, committee member served Kentucky Fried chicken box lunches to the 15 residents and staff. The clients enjoyed the meal and visit.  The staff enjoyed not having to cook lunch.
